OVERVIEW

Vinca Liane Jarrett received her Juris Doctorate in 1988. She is admitted to practice law in New York and Massachusetts, and has established a national and international legal practice, focused primarily on entertainment and media issues, with clients nationwide stretching from Coast to Coast in California and New York, throughout New England (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont), New Jersey, Tennessee, Washington, D.C., Montana, Texas, Illinois, and internationally, including Canada, London and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Additionally she has established FilmPro Finance LLC, a financial consulting firm connecting financiers and producers, Skriptease Script Consulting, assisting writers with script story line and format, and an education company which provides seminars to worldwide film producers on how to structure and raise finance and find distribution in the international marketplace.

THE LAW

  General Practice

Vinca Jarrett has assisted clients, primarily in the New England and New York areas with a variety of general practice issues from real estate to wills, trust and estate. Real estate transactions have included the purchase or sale of property; converting multi-family residences to condominiums; drafting condominium documents; and claims against members of condominium associations who fail to comply with rules set by the association. She has additionally assisted clients with contractor disputes and negotiate contracts for services. Attorney Jarrett has also helped small business form legal entities from partnerships to limited liability companies, as well as a variety of start-up issues including work-for-hire agreements and employment contracts.

  Focus on Entertainment

Vinca Jarrett represents a variety of established and budding filmmakers from the organization of their film companies through finding distribution for their projects. She attends dozens of key film festivals that includes: Cannes International Film Festival, Berlinale International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival; Sundance and Slam Dance Film Festivals in Park City; New York Film Market; AFM; Telluride; Durango; and a variety of New England Festivals, including Boston Film Festival; Northampton Film Festival; Woodshole Film Festival; Newport International Film Festival; Provincetown International Film Festival; and Providence International Film Festival, assisting clients negotiate deals and packaging clients music and film projects. Additionally, through her company FilmPro Finance, LLC Jarrett makes introductions to producer clients to potential sources of financing.

            PRODUCTION WORK

Serving as production counsel constitutes a majority of Attorney Jarrett's workload. From formation of the production company and creating investor packages to drafting of production contracts with talent, crew, products and locations to deals with producer's reps, sales agents and distribution, Attorney Jarrett helps your film get into production and potentially become profitable.

            MUSIC

Music industry clients include artists just starting out and requiring band agreements, producer and manager contracts and ultimately negotiations of record deals; composer deals with film projects and licensing and sale agreements; and classical musicians wishing to form legal entities with their groups for touring and creation of vanity labels. Music producers and artists beginning labels have sought out the Firm's assistance in establishing and marketing their music. Attorney Jarrett has also assisted artists find management, producers and gain access to record labels, positioning artists in a favorable place in the evermore complex arena of the film industry. Many composers and music supervisors also seek Attorney Jarrett's assistance in placing their work and skills in specific film and television productions.

Creating engagement letters to formation of companies, employment contracts and even assisting with collections matters; attorney Jarrett has helped architects, videographers and photographers launch and protect their businesses.

            FILM FINANCE

In 2001 Vinca Jarrett founded FilmPro Finance LLC, after developing financial resources for industry professionals that included Cosmic Entertainment, Icon, APG, Robert Rehme, Romano-Shane Productions and The Syndicate amongst others. Focused initially on making introductions to bank financing mechanisms for large slates of studio pictures, FilmPro provides consulting that assists clients by matching A-list producers with investors, including bank finance, co-production and international funds and private equity in exchange for a finder's fee upon closing a deal.

            SCRIPT CONSULTING

In 1992, Vinca Jarrett founded Skriptease Script Consulting, assisting novice and experience writers craft scripts for spec sales and independent production. Guiding writers through drafts and understanding the relationship of plot, character and cost of production, Skriptease has assisted numerous writers hone their scripts for sale or production.

F            FILM FINANCE CONFERENCE SERIES

In 2003, Vinca Jarrett launched a lecture series for experienced mid-level producers, production executives and entry-level business people in the industry, the seminar series is focused on guiding productions through the myriad of film finance and worldwide distribution issues.

            HISTORY

Attorney Jarrett's practical experience has varied from litigation to corporate work to wills, trusts & estates. From 1986-1987 she worked for the general practice firm of John G. Dalton in Port Washington, New York, focusing on wills, trust & estates and family law. From 1987-1988 she worked at the New York Attorney General's Office in Manhattan assisting with high profile prosecution and defense work. From 1988 until 1996, she served in-house as Deputy General Counsel at the Massachusetts Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP), representing a variety of environmental matters ranging from real estate development to corporate, bankruptcy and litigation work to policy and regulatory development. Since 1997,she has been in private practice working for varied entertainment industry, corporate, and environmental clients. Attorney Jarrett's practice has taken her as far as the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she represented the U.S. Territorial Government in claims against Exxon, Texaco and AT&T, as well as numerous television and film industry clients. From 1998 to 2000 Attorney Jarrett partnered with former Massachusetts State Senator William Golden to found NRP Global, an environmental consulting firm specializing in natural resource damage claims against multi-national companies.

Making a critical change in her work goals, in 2000 Attorney Jarrett began developing her own entertainment practice and became Of Counsel to the local Boston firm of Shames and Litwin who focused primarily on music and entertainment clients that included LFO, New Kids on the Block, The Boys Choir of Harlem and producers of Fried Green Tomatoes. In 2002 Jarrett formed the company FilmPro Finance LLC assisting primarily A-list producers establish funding for a slate of pictures from various sources that include bank financing, co-production and equity. Today with her newly founded legal practice in conjunction with FilmPro Finance LLC, Jarrett has become a leading innovator and representative in the entertainment industry.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

Attorney Jarrett has served as Chairperson of the Boston Bar Association's Arts & Entertainment Committee; has been a Member of the Board of Directors of Mass Media Alliance and Boston's oldest improvisation troupe, ImprovBoston; and is currently on the Board of Advisors for the Golden Trailer Awards, which is held annually in Los Angeles. She is also an active member of Women in Film and Video; and is a regularly featured entertainment writer in Imagine News and Film Festival International. She frequently guest lectures at universities including: Harvard, New York University, Boston College of Law, Boston University, as well as for Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and Continuing Legal Education Programs. She is co-chair of the International Film & Television Finance Summit held bi-annually in Manhatten and Beverly Hills, and regularly moderates conferences around the world, including Cannes in 2004, the Oregon Film Commission and upcoming events in San Francisco.

EDUCATION

A graduate with honors of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, in 1985, Vinca went on to many more accomplishments, including founder and editor of the Entertainment Law Digest and President of the Environmental Law Society at Hofstra University School of Law where she received her J.D. in 1988. She is also an alumni of Stage Door Manor (which is the basis of the feature film CAMP produced by Danny DeVito and Christine Vacchon, and released in 2003).
